My Trip to Anito Falls: A Hidden Adventure in La Union 🌿💦

 

When I planned to explore La Union, I wanted something beyond the usual beaches and surfing spots. That’s how I discovered Anito Falls, a hidden waterfall tucked away in the mountains of Santol, La Union—and it turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of my trip.

Sitio Banbanaba, Barangay Lettac Sur, Santol, La Union.
The area is surrounded by thick forest and tall rock formations, making it feel quiet and untouched.

🚗 How I Got There

From San Juan, La Union I traveled to Santol, La Union by land. Once we reached Barangay Lettac Sur, we registered at the barangay and were advised to get a local guide, which I highly recommend. The trail can be tricky, especially for first-time visitors.
From the jump-off point, we hiked down a steep and sometimes slippery trail. It wasn’t an easy walk, but the excitement of reaching the falls kept me going.

🌊 Seeing the Falls for the First Time

The moment I saw Anito Falls, all the effort disappeared. Water rushed down massive rock walls into a deep, natural pool below. The air felt cooler, and the sound of the waterfall instantly relaxed me. The place had a peaceful yet powerful atmosphere—almost magical.

The name “Anito” comes from old Filipino beliefs about nature spirits, and standing there, I understood why locals treat the place with respect.

I spent time sitting on the rocks, enjoying the view, and soaking in the fresh air. I also went for a quick swim—the water was cold but incredibly refreshing. The pool is deep, so extra caution is needed, especially for non-swimmers.
